A Business Improvement District (BID) is a precisely defined geographical area of a town, city, or commercial district, where businesses have voted to invest collectively in local improvements in addition to those delivered by statutory authorities. They are often, although not exclusively, a partnership arrangement through which the local business community and the statutory authorities can take forward projects, which will benefit the local economy.
Falkirk town centre was fortunate to be one of the 6 pilots, (the others were, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Bathgate town and city centres, plus Clackmannanshire business parks) and received sufficient funding from the Scottish Government over a two year period to deliver a BID in Falkirk.

To address the issues highlighted by the local businesses in the research the Falkirk BID carried out in the lead up to the ballot date, a business plan was written. The objectives set are to be carried out over a three year period.
The six main objectives are shown in the panel below. Further information on individual objectives can be accessed by clicking on each objective link.
