Objective 5. Let’s shout about it! (Marketing and promotions)

To encourage customer loyalty, increased footfall and spend, the following projects have been identified:

• The Falkirk BID aim to introduce at least one new event per year in the town centre to increase footfall and spend.

• Promotional advertising of the town centre is on-going as to increase the awareness of Falkirk as a location to shop, eat, drink & socialise. This is achieved by using bus, press, radio and poster advertising.

• To promote shopping in the town centre, the Falkirk BID have re-launched the Farmers’ Market which will now be held on the First Friday of every month from the 2nd July 2010. We heavily promote the market using press advertising, banners in the High Street and other promotional materials.
• We aim to boost public perception by staging an annual Street Market.

• Street Market. In May 2009 we successfully staged a 4 day Italian Street Market.

• We stage an annual Christmas Marketing Campaign to encourage shoppers to visit Falkirk throughout the festive period. These events include the Switch on of Falkirk’s Christmas Lights, Santa and his Aviemore reindeer, Discount Shopping evening, and annual accessible shopping day; we also heavily promote the town centre by running a series of competitions.

 Summer Daze Event

In July, the BID staged a 3-day Summer Daze event, aimed at attracting families into the town during the summer holidays. The first day saw a Harry Potter magic show at the bandstand in the east-end of the High Street. Q20 Theatre group performed their excellent magic show 3 times, and each time, the audiences were amazed at the illusions they witnessed. Thanks to Falkirk Library Service who told Harry Potter stories to children in the 2 wigwams located in Callendar Riggs.

Day 2 of the event was highly popular with fans of Fireman Sam, and all things Fire and Rescue. Our friends at Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service pulled out the stops and hosted a fantastic selection of safety stunts, such as extinguishing a chip pan fire, extricating a ‘person’ from a crashed car and a demonstration of just how clever their rescue dogs are. Our thanks to all the representatives from the Fire and Rescue service, and to Central Scotland Police for displaying their underwater search unit.

Day 3 of the Summer Daze event was a hoot. Falkirk is plagued by seagulls at present, and if you didn’t see our giant seagulls, please take a look at the little video filmed at the top of Lint Riggs, which is now on the website. We staged a super little craft market, and we had live music from the bandstand, a static display of birds of prey in Newmarket Street, and Deathro Jethro the 8ft stilt walking pirate caused mayhem wherever he wandered. One enthusiastic family was overheard in the town describing Falkirk as having a ‘carnival’ feel about it during the Summer Daze event.

Let's shout about it!
