Falkirk takes top town spot in national CACI retail rankings

Falkirk has taken back the top town spot in the nationally recognised CACI retail rankings, and it’s due to the importance of our mix of national and independent retail businesses.
Falkirk’s place in the retail rankings has shot up this year from 15th place last year to number 7 in Scottish terms and from 189th to number 137 in UK terms.

There are a number of factors that are taken into account when CACI compile their rankings. The quantity and quality of retail provision provides the footprint score while competition from neighbouring centres and accessibility into the town are also factors.
Over and above the retail provision, transaction data is collected by one of the leading debit / credit card companies on the value of comparison goods sales achieved.
Using their highly technical models and the information collated, CACI can then determine the position of towns throughout the country and the value of the potential spend to retail businesses down to minute categories.
For the first time ever, CACI have joined forces with the Local Data Company who have been able to provide more details on the importance of local independent retail businesses throughout the UK, which has given CACI a fuller picture on the retail picture in every centre in the UK.

As Falkirk’s independent retail sector is still particularly strong, this has meant that the town has leapt to 7th position in this year’s rankings.
The Scottish top 10 places in this year’s CACI rankings are as follows:
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Silverburn, Braehead, FALKIRK, Stirling, Inverness and Fort Kinnaird.

Falkirk’s current position in the retail rankings will form part of a new Inward Investment project that the BID and Falkirk Council will deliver, aimed at encouraging businesses that are not trading in Falkirk to consider locating a store here.

Funny in Falkirk has audiences in stitches!

The Falkirk BID, in partnership with Falkirk Council, recently staged Falkirk’s first ever comedy festival – Funny in Falkirk, where many of the country’s leading stand-up acts had audiences in stitches at venues throughout Falkirk. Nationally recognised stand-ups like Kevin Bridges, Fred MacAuley, Danny Bhoy, Des McLean, Tam Cowan and many more had audiences rolling in the aisles for the 12 days of the festival. Venues throughout the town and the area staged some 40 shows to appreciative audiences enjoying a good laugh.
The BID would like to take this opportunity to thank the event main sponsor, My Future’s in Falkirk, and our superb media partners, the Falkirk Herald and Central FM, who pulled out the stops to help promote the festival to a wide audience. We would also like to thank Tommy Shepard and his team from the Scottish Comedy Agency for organising the event on our behalf and for providing such a fantastic line-up of acts to appear in Falkirk.
Funny in Falkirk was the Falkirk BID’s main event for 2010, and was aimed at encouraging more people into the town to enjoy our evening economy, as well as to raise the profile of the town to as wide a catchment as possible (large posters for instance promoted the event at Queen Street station in Glasgow, the website had a good number of unique visits and other regional media picked up on it in the lead up to the festival). From the early feedback received, audiences really enjoyed the shows staged, and as such it is hoped that the success of Funny in Falkirk will attract new sponsors and will enable the BID to stage the event on an annual basis from now on.

Charities Day 2010
This year's annual town centre Charities' Day was once again stages, in partnership between the Rotary Club of Falkirk and the Falkirk BID and took place on 'back to school' Saturday, the 14th of August. This year there were record number of charities taking part in the event, which ran virtually the whole length of the eastern half of the High street from the Royal Bank on the corner of Kirk Wynd to Callendar Square.
Charities' Day brought a large number of people into town who enjoyed a great day's shopping as well as supporting dozens of local charities. As usual with Charities Day, there was a party, an almost carnival like atomosphere in the town, as the genrouse people of Falkirk and from further a field donated thousands of pounds to the area's charities.
